The IoT connectivity technology ecosystem is maturing quickly. While some technology entrants are already on the decline, the stronger candidates are establishing themselves as de-facto technologies for certain market segments and use cases. Narrowband IoT dubbed NB-IoT is the fastest evolving protocol. The NB-IoT standard was frozen on the 3GPP Release 13 specification in 2016 and is now available on more than 50 cellular networks around the world. This overview provides an overview of the NB-IoT chipset and module manufacturers and their offerings.
Qualcomm is one of the major players in the NB-IoT chipset arena. Its focus is clearly cellular built around the emergence of 5G as the driver for transport, health care and IoT, including cities and smart homes and wearables. The MDM9206 LTE multi-standard modem includes support for LTE Cat-M1 and LTE Cat-NB1 (Nb-IoT) connectivity.

Nestwave, a global leader in low-power geolocation for the IoT, has announced that Renesas will be employing Nestwave technology in a new LTE-M/NB-IoT platform that the semiconductor manufacturer will be launching as a result of its licensing agreements with Sequans Communications, a leading provider of cellular IoT chips and modules.
The young French company Nestwave , which has developed a geolocation technology which avoids the use of a positioning circuit by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellites and which relies on the resources of the cellular communication chips traditionally present in connected objects, announces the integration of its IP into a secure communication circuit for long-range, low-power radio networks (LPWAN) from the Munich firm Trasna Solutions.
Nestwave , a company dedicated to low-power geolocation technology for the IoT, announces its collaboration with Samea, a specialist in IoT connectivity, in the development of a reusable logistics tracker in an ultra- slim design with a battery life of several years.
Taiwan based MediaTek (one of only two 5G merchant silicon vendors) unveiled its new Filogic connectivity chip sets with the introduction of the Filogic 830 Wi-Fi 6/6E system-on-chip (SoC) and Filogic 630 Wi-Fi 6E network interface card (NIC) products. MediaTek said its new Filogic series of Wi-Fi 6/6E chipsets provide reliable connectivity, high computation functionalities and a rich set of features in highly integrated, power-efficient designs.
Telit Cinterion is an IoT Enabler providing IoT modules, edge-to-cloud services including connectivity plans, IoT SIMs, IoT embedded software and PaaS IoT deployment managed services. On July 29 2022, Telit and Thales (Euronext Paris: HO), a global leader in Aerospace, Defense, Security & Digital Identity, jointly announced they entered into an agreement under which Telit would acquire Thales' cellular IoT products.[1] The transaction which was concluded on December 31, 2022, included Thales' IoT services platform and portfolio of cellular wireless communication modules, gateways, and data (modem) cards, ranging from 4G LTE, LPWAN to 5G. On August 26 2022, Telit announced the acquisition of group assets from Mobilogix, a California-based startup company specializing in custom IoT solutions worldwide.[2] The acquisition added device engineering expertise and resources that focus on optimizing specifications for handoff to electronic manufacturing services, original device manufacturing, and the attainment of regulatory approvals and carrier certifications. In 2021, the company launched Telit NeXT, a cloud-native core network to enhance its global IoT connectivity offering.[3] 2ff7e9595c
